Description:
The Doric String Quartet! Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” & “Rosamunde”! ■Hailed by the British magazine Gramophone as “one of the finest young string quartets” and regarded by Chandos as a leading artist of the next generation, the Doric String Quartet is a British ensemble. Following their recordings of Korngold (String Quartet, Piano Quintet), Walton, and Schumann, their fifth release features two major works from Schubert’s late period: “Rosamunde” and “Death and the Maiden”! ■“Death and the Maiden,” with its taut tension bordering on despair, and “Rosamunde,” embodying Schubert’s characteristic melodic beauty. From these two masterpieces—both composed in 1824 as Schubert’s physical strength was waning—the Doric String Quartet brings out the contrasts in Schubert’s emotions. Tokyo M Plus
