Description:
A smoky voice and soothing neo-soul. The long-awaited CD release of "WHEN THE CITY SLEEPS," the highly anticipated major-label debut album by singer-songwriter/producer Alex Isley—once the "best-kept secret" and a "hidden gem" in the American music scene—is finally here! The album seamlessly blends soul, R&B, and jazz with dreamy soundscapes, featuring rich vocals and soothing production. Alex Isley, the singer-songwriter and producer who was once the "best-kept secret" and a "hidden gem" in the American music scene. The daughter of Ernie Isley of the legendary Isley Brothers, she has made a name for herself as a backing vocalist for artists such as Selena Gomez, Meghan Trainor, and Alicia Keys. Now, she is set to release her major-label debut album, *WHENTHECITYSLEEPS*. Born in New Jersey and raised in Los Angeles, Alex has nurtured a deep love for music since childhood. She first took the stage at age 5 and learned the fundamentals of songwriting and performance by observing her family’s performances up close. “It was a long-running masterclass for me,” she says. By the time she reached middle school, hip-hop artists had begun sampling the Isley Brothers’ songs as the foundation for their own singles, bridging the generational gap between her age and her family’s music. Since that fateful performance at age five, she was determined to continue performing on stage and enrolled at the LA County High School for the Arts to formally study music theory. Additionally, since her late maternal grandmother was an opera singer and retired vocal coach, she received training in perfect pitch from her grandmother from before her teenage years until she graduated from UCLA (majoring in jazz). In 2012, she released the critically acclaimed EP *LOVE/ART MEMOIRS*, followed a year later by her debut album *DREAMS IN ANALOG*. The greatest strength underpinning her early work was her DIY production style, and she honed her craft with each subsequent release. Projects such as *LUXURY* (2015), *THE BEAUTY OF EVERYTHING (PART ONE AND TWO)*, *WILTON* (2019)—a collaboration with producer Jack Dine—and *MARIGOLD* (2022), also with Dine, demonstrate her sound’s consistent yet steadily evolving nature.
