A project by Katharina Clement, a composer born in Graz, Austria, focusing on the musical interpretation of industrial sounds! She studied piano, composition and electroacoustic music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and now works as a composer, performer and sound artist in the fields of composition, improvisation and music for electronic and instrumental music. Building materials such as concrete, plaster, sand, and cement have long fascinated Clement because of their rapid transformation from liquid to hard in reaction to mixtures and temperature. In this project, Clement takes as his starting point various sound sources recorded at a cement factory, such as conveyor belts, grinding mills, and water quenchers, and uses composition and improvisation techniques to create diverse musical works from a random set of noises.
