Robin, Sweden’s timeless pop icon, has released her ninth studio album, *Sexistential*, via the UK label Young. Following the critically acclaimed lead single “Dopamine,” the two tracks “TalkToMe” and “Sexistential”—unveiled alongside the album announcement—further cement this as one of the most acclaimed comebacks of the past decade. “TalkToMe” was produced by Klas Åhlund (Swedish House Mafia, Katy Perry, and others) and Oscar Holter (Coldplay, The Weeknd, and others), with Max Martin (Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, and others), marking the first time the trio has collaborated since 2010’s “Time Machine.” The track is filled with pure, carefree joy—it makes you wonder what it would sound like if Robin tried to write a song for Prince or the Gap Band—while the production is distinctly modern. “I wrote this song in the middle of the pandemic, when we couldn’t physically touch each other at all,” Robin says. “I like chatty people; that’s what makes my heart race.” Meanwhile, “Sexistential” was co-written and co-produced with Klas Åhland, and is likely the world’s first song to feature rapping about a one-night stand while 10 weeks pregnant following in vitro fertilization. Conceived as a response to Andre 3000’s remark that “no one would want to hear me rap about my colonoscopy,” Robin—who was eager to hear that rap—decided to lay it all bare. “That was the signal,” she says. “I thought, ‘I have to do this; I have to write a rap about IVF.’” *Sexistential* is the most uplifting album Robin has released to date, and it marks a return to her roots for an artist who represents the forefront of contemporary music.
