The xx's Romy releases his debut solo album with one of the most popular producers in the UK today, Fred Agean! Romy, who has released three albums as a member of The xx and is highly acclaimed for his diverse talents as a singer-songwriter and DJ, releases his debut album on Young, the first of his career. The first single, "Loveher," is a pivotal song for Romy, opening the album and being the first song written for the album. Romy and producer Fred Again initially teamed up to write songs for other artists, but the two quickly developed a friendship and a sense of musical connection that led to the creation of something new. After Romy wrote "Loveher," a declarative pop song about the intimacy of falling in love with a woman, "Fred asked me, "Who is this song for?" I asked." Romy explains. "And I said, 'Maybe it's for me? And I said, "Maybe it's for me. That was the beginning of Mid Air, a proud, positive queer love story.This album, Mid Air, is about the dance floor as a place of celebration, sanctuary, and salvation. The album is about love, grief, romantic relationships, identity, and sexuality, and is a love letter to the queer clubs where Romy felt connected to the community. It is a "coming out album," in a sense, since Romy came out about her personal life a long time ago, but it is also a "coming through" album, where she overcame her grief and heartache and moved toward happiness. Mid Air" was produced by Fred Agean, the hottest producer in the UK music scene, who has produced hits for many big names, and Stuart Price, known for producing for Madonna and others. The song "Enjoy Your Life" was also produced by bandmate Jamie xx.Combining Romy's love of dance classics with her unique songwriting, this sound, like Romy's own musical preferences, finds the perfect point between euphoria, escapism, sadness, and melancholy, creating a sound that brings the dance floor to togetherness. The import version of the album will be released simultaneously on limited edition clear pink vinyl in addition to the standard CD/LP.
