Description:

This is the Beethoven that took the world by surprisePervo Järvi will assume the position of Principal Conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra in September 2015. One of the factors that led to his international breakthrough was his Beethoven project with the Deutsche Kammerphil. The first concert after he became the artistic director of the Deutsche Kammerphil was held in June 2004. Immediately after that, Pävo and the Deutsche Kammerfil recorded Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 and No. 5 "Emperor" with Ikuyo Nakamichi (simultaneously recorded on video), and also recorded Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, the first of the complete symphony cycle. Since then, Beethoven's works have become the core repertoire of Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphil, and the complete symphonies and piano concertos with Ikuyo Nakamichi, which were recorded over the course of 2008 in parallel with the orchestra's worldwide cycle performances, have all received high praise. The Beethoven Cycle performed in Yokohama during the duo's first tour of Japan was acclaimed as "the world's greatest Beethoven" and became their trademark. 2009's Bonn Beethoven Festival Cycle was recorded on video and released on DVD along with a TV broadcast. This album is the CD version of No. 5 "Destiny" and No. 1, released as a hybrid disc in 2008 as the third volume of the complete Beethoven cycle. The strong and flexible sound produced by the opposing, richly articulated strings with restrained vibrato, the virtuoso winds, the natural trumpets without valves, and the period timpani played with stiff bees, bring out the unique character of each symphony. The strong and flexible sound produced by the natural trumpet without pipe valves and the period timpani played with a stiff bachi brings out the unique character of each symphony. The recordings have been selected by Record Geijutsu magazine as one of the "500 Best Masterpieces of the Latest Edition" (2014), and are now an inescapable and well-established classic when listening to these works. Recorded in DSD during sessions at the acoustically excellent Hunkhaus Berlin-Nalepa-Strasse in Berlin, these recordings are also highly acclaimed for their sound quality. The recording is being handled by Polyhymnia, a Dutch company set up by the staff of the former Philips label. Sony Music
