The first wide reissue of jazz-funk drumming legend Idris Muhammad's seminal first solo album, originally released on Prestige in 1971! Muhammad is a rhythm king from New Orleans, a legendary drummer who made the jump from the soulful jazz records of the 60's to the ferocious fusion funk of the 70's. In 1970, he gathered for a session supervised by legendary producer Rudy Van Gelder. With Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, and Melvin Sparks at the helm, he literally had one foot in groovy material like "Express Yourself" and "Super Bad" and the other in his own heady excursions into modal rhythms and melodies, literally at two peaks. This album is a masterpiece, consisting of two moods, side A and side B, with beautiful sequences and a great listening experience that only a vinyl record can provide. Idris Muhammad is an American jazz drummer and bandleader.His extensive career has included playing jazz, funk, R&B, and soul music and recording with musicians such as Ahmad Jamal, Lou Donaldson, Pharoah Sanders, Bob James, and Tete Montrieu. His pioneering approach, incorporating syncopated grooves, bluesy swing, and trademark funky breaks, has been the backbone of his illustrious career, with approximately 500 recording credits across genres. Cut by Kevin Gray from the original analog tapes and pressed at RTI, this 180g weight LP is housed in a chip-on jacket.
