Winner of the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album for "Made in Brazil" and the 2017 Latin Grammy Award for "Dance of Time," multi-Grammy winner Iriane Ilias' new album is the hit Broadway The Man of La Mancha" musical. Recorded in 1995, this instrumental work was co-produced by the late Mitch Lee, late composer of the original Broadway musical "The Man of La Mancha," and Iliane. Playing with Iliane on piano are Eddie Gomez (b) and Jack DiJonet (ds), and two trios + Manolo Badrena (perc) with Mark Johnson (b) and Satoshi Takeishi (ds). This is the first time that Ileane has tackled a Broadway production. The musical "The Man of La Mancha" premiered in 1964, originally inspired by the novel "Don Quixote" by the 17th century theatrical Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. The work was inspired by the Tony Award-winning composer Lee, who came directly to the apartment to ask Ileane to arrange and perform from "The Man of La Mancha" for a new album. He said, "Of course, I knew about the musical. I was delighted to hear that Lee had chosen me for such a big role," said Lee, who was brought to the apartment by Neil Warner, who had arranged the original musical.He liked my arrangements of other composers' songs. He had heard "Eliane Elias Plays Jobim" first, and after listening to the others, he wanted me to arrange his songs as well, and he gave me a CD of the original Broadway cast. He gave me a CD of the original Broadway cast. I chose songs that I thought I could make more interesting. The end result is a Brazilian/Latin/jazz piece. Ileane said.
