Description:
American jazz/gospel singer Liz Wright's sixth album in two years is now available. This is a continuation of her previous release on Concord, with songs and stories that connect the various soul traditions of her roots in the American South. Produced by singer/songwriter Joe Henry, the songs are deeply woven into the cultural fabric of the U.S., with Liz's unique sense of Americana, recorded live at Sunset Boulevard in L.A., and recorded by an amazing group of musicians at United Recording Studios. The album also features Atlanta-based pianist Kenny Banks Sr. and special guest guitarist Marc Ribot, who have worked together for 20 years, bassist David Piltch, guitarists Chris Bruce and Marvin Sewell, and drummer Marvin Sewell. The album consists of covers except for the original "All the Way Here," co-written with Maia Sharp. The album features a wide range of artists from the past, including Ray Charles, Allen Toussaint, Nina Simone, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, k.d. lang, Bob Dylan, Frank Perkins, and Mitchell Parish, as well as the more recent Rose, Cousins, and Birds of Chicago.
