Description:
Mitch Ryder, who had hit with his shouty rock'n'roll in the mid to late 60's, got a chance to perform at Rockpalast Eurovision Night on October 6, 1979 in Gruga Halle, Essen. Three bands were invited to the concert. In addition to Mitch, Southside Johnny and The Nils Lofgren Band also performed. Each band had one day of rehearsal each, but since Mitch's performance was on Saturday, the last day of the concert, and rehearsal was mid-week, he spent several days drinking in the hotel. On the day of the concert, he arrived at the studio with a nearly empty bottle of bourbon. In a live interview with presenter Alan Bangs, he was so inebriated that he later became the subject of a story.However, what followed was a great performance. From "Ain't Nobody White Can Sing The Blues" to the Doors' cover of "Soul Kitchen" at the end, Mitch's soulful singing gave me goosebumps.
