Ragnhild Hemsing(Hardanger Fiddle) Baroccanane(Old Instrument Orchestra) Ragnhild Hemsing, an avid introducer of the Norwegian folk instrument Hardanger Fiddle (Hardingfærre), will perform Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" and other Norwegian music with the Norwegian old instrument ensemble "Barokkanane". Interspersed between pieces Between Vivaldi's "Spring," "Summer," "Autumn," and "Winter," three pieces of folk music from Valdres in southern Norway and a piece by Pöttesjön from Hashta in northern Norway are inserted, and before "Summer," the prelude to Act III of Maran Marais' opera "Alcyone" is placed. Overtone Sound of High Audio Interest The Hardanger fiddle is a violin with resonant strings below the usual four strings, and its unique overtone-rich sound is of great audio interest. The material of the strings varies; the resonating strings are made of steel; of the four upper strings, the E string is usually made of steel, the D string is usually made of steel or aluminum wire wrapped with gut, and the G and A strings are usually made of gut. However, there are few fixed rules in place. Norwegian folk music and the Hardanger fiddle have a tradition that has been passed down through the centuries, but because Norway has a small population and many small communities that are geographically and climatically distant from each other that were once almost isolated, both the local language and folk music are very different. There are many variations in both local languages and folk music. (NPT)
