The Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra's series of recordings of Haydn's complete symphonies, with its dashing period approach, is irresistible. The recording series has been led by the prodigious Thomas Fai, but was halted in 2014 after he fell and seriously injured himself at his home. The recordings resumed in 2016 under the direction of Benjamin Spillner, and the 23rd and 24th volumes of the series are now available. The 24th collection includes Symphonies No. 9, No. 37, No. 38, and No. 63, "La Roxlanne," all in C major. All are in C major. Spilner inherited the world of Haydn's symphonies that Fey had created with this orchestra, and the contrast between the non-vibrato technique and the intense approach is truly vivid. This is a performance that will raise expectations for the future sequels in the series! King International
