The elegant music festival held in a beautiful English garden is a favorite of opera fans around the world. It is also a prestigious music festival that is said to be a gateway to success for new singers. This DVD-box contains a total of 26 hours of footage of 11 operas performed at the Glyndebourne Festival between 1972 and 1980. The London Philharmonic Orchestra has been the face of the festival since the days of John Prichard, who was the chief conductor at the time. John Prichard was the music director of the festival from 1964 to 1977, and left important repertoire for the festival such as "Macbeth," "The Marriage of Figaro," "Idomeneo," and "Così fan tutte.The production is directed by Peter Hall, the founder of the Royal Shakspeare Company, and features a distinguished lineup of singers including Kiri Te Kanawa, Janet Baker, and Ileana Kotrbasz.
