Petrenko & RLPO's Stravinsky! The second of three major ballets is "The Firebird"! Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO) continue to make great strides with their previous release, "The Rite of Spring" (PNYX4182/ONYX4182), which was a great success around the world. The second of the three major ballets in the highly anticipated Stravinsky project is "The Firebird"! Following "The Rite of Spring," the second volume in the series, which includes works by Stravinsky, Debussy, and Rachmaninoff, all of which share the theme of "spring," this time the theme is "birds," with Stravinsky's "Firebird" and Rimsky=Korsakov's "The Golden Rooster" as the coupling. Petrenko included various keywords in the program: "birds," "Russian music," and the "master-disciple relationship" between Rimsky=Korsakov and Stravinsky.The Firebird" was performed by Petrenko and the RLPO on their first tour of Japan in 2015 to rave reviews, and we are excited to see them back on stage!
