Shai Wossner, an elite pianist born in Israel in 1976, won the fourth prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Competition in 1999 and was awarded the prestigious Avery Fischer Career Grant in 2005. She was awarded the prestigious Avery Fischer Career Grant in 2005, and her participation in Barenboim's master class broadcast on NHK-BS in 2008 brought her to the forefront of the international music scene. Her last album (ONYX 4174), an ambitious program of Haydn & Ligeti, was widely acclaimed, being selected as "The Best Classical MusicRecordings of 2016" by the New York Times and "Concerto Choice" by the BBC Music Magazine. The fifth ONYX album is a collection of pieces titled "Impromptu," an original recital program of improvisations by composers ranging from Chopin, Liszt, Schubert, and Dvořák to Ives and Gershwin. .
