One of Nadia Boulanger's last students, David Conte's chamber works. Intimate Voices is an album of chamber music by David Conte (1955-), one of America's leading contemporary composers, featuring a variety of chamber music recorded between 2014 and 2024. One of the last pupils of Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979), Comte has published more than 150 works, including operas, musicals, choral works, orchestral works, chamber works, organ, piano, guitar, and harp works. He is also known for his film music, co-composing the documentary "Ballets Russes," which was screened at the Sundance and Toronto Film Festivals, and for his music for the PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) documentary film "Orozco. Inheriting the spirit of his mentor Boulanger, who said, "True individuality in music is revealed only through a deep knowledge of the individuality of others," Conte draws inspiration from his predecessors to create his own expressive "voice. This album, which contains the charms of Conte's chamber music, including the quiet and intense "Dirge" for violin and piano, and the Piano Trio No. 2, written as a tribute to Korngold, Stephen Sondheim, Frank Martin, and Beethoven, will be 70 years old this year (2025).
