The eternal beauty of a sacred masterpiece. Les Arts Florissants, led by Christy recorded Campra's Requiem and Miserere! Les Arts Florissants led by William Christie, who made a big splash at his concert in Japan in November 2023, will make their first appearance on the PENTATONE label! They will be releasing a recording of the Requiem and Miserere by Campra. André Campra (1660-1744) is known as the composer of French operas between Lully and Rameau. In addition to his operas, he also composed many religious works (church music). His music is delicate and expressive, with timeless harmonies that speak directly to the listener's heart. The group has performed and recorded parts of the Requiem, but this is the first time it has been recorded in its complete form. The Miserere, on the other hand, is full of grace and deep emotion, which is vividly recreated in the group's performance on the original instruments. The nuanced tone of Les Arts Florissants imbues every phrase with the elegance of the "French musical tradition," even in the Latin text, which was shaped by the peculiar pronunciation of the French of the time. The soloists, Bastien Raimondi and Mathieu Walendzik, are experienced vocalists who have studied under the project "Le Jardin des Voix," launched by Christie and the company. This project, which aims to discover and develop the talents of young vocalists, has given them the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the baroque opera stage, resulting in the development of a tradition of great performers. Thus, with the participation of many fine performers nurtured by Christie, the group is steadily and constantly striving for further musical development as a prestigious organization, and you can sense just from listening to this recording that this has led to the creation of lively and spontaneous music. We hope you will enjoy their excellent performance. André Campra is an important but historically underrated figure in Western sacred choral music. I believe that Campra's sacred works, characterized by elegance, emotional clarity, and spiritual depth, deserve wider recognition.
