The Quiloga String Quartet, a Spanish ensemble named after the great Galician violinist Manuel Quiroga (1892-1961) and awarded the 2007 Cultural Prize by the Spanish National Radio. Their latest disc, titled "und es ward licht!", a quotation from the creation scene in the Old Testament, is a two-CD album featuring only Haydn and Mozart's works in C major, depicting one of the most fascinating periods in music history: the Age of Enlightenment. C major is also the key Haydn chose to depict the moment of creation (und es wiederlicht!) in his oratorio.An art form that both emanates from reason and thought and speaks directly to the emotions, the "string quartet" was a universal and democratized music that perfectly combined the structural power of language with the creativity and freedom of poetry, a new genre that symbolized the Enlightenment era.
