Debut album by the "Duo Hoffman-Daas" cellist Natania Hoffman, a member of Trio Agora and winner of the 2018 Anton Rubinshtein Competition in Düsseldorf, and Lithuanian pianist Monika Daas. The album "Resistance" is a collection of four complex, intense and deeply human works written by 20th century composers who lived in the Soviet Union and the Third Reich. Beginning with a new work by Canadian-American composer Joel Hoffman, who is also Natania's father, "Zapyskis" (the name of a place in Lithuania where Hoffman's Jewish ancestors lived and was massacred by the Nazis during the war), the album is followed by Shostakovich's Cello Sonata and a new work by Shostakovich's pupil and romantic partner, Gaeta. and with whom he is said to have had a romantic relationship, is combined with a contrasting cello work by Galina Ustvolskaya and a small piece by Anatoliyus Shenderovas, one of the greatest Lithuanian musicians of our time, who closed his life in 2019.
