Founded in 1998, the EnAccord String Quartet is a Dutch female quartet that studied with members of the Alban Berg String Quartet at the Cologne University of Music. The string quartet repertoire is a constant voyage of discovery and exploration," they say, and their project is to collect and present a repertoire of string quartets that are wonderful but little-performed gems of the unknown. Following "Capriccio" (KTC1608), which includes works by Schulhoff, Lecoux, Puccini, Turina, and others, this new jewel box of works includes the majestic court music of Purcell and the elegant classical world of Lombardini, interspersed with Prokofiev's "A Brief Vision," arranged for string quartet, Lecoux's exuberant passion, McConkie's existential awe, and Mendelssohn's restrained romanticism, this is an ambitious program of works that vary widely in style, mood, and artistic intent.
