Debussy & Gershwin played by a young Latvian virtuoso, Osokins! A Debussy & Gershwin album performed by Andreas Osokins, one of Latvia's leading virtuoso pianists. Osokins began playing the piano at the age of 5 and gave solo recitals at the young age of 14. He has won top prizes in numerous prestigious competitions, including the Audience Prize at the 5th International German Piano Prize, 3rd prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition in 2012, 4th prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition, and 4th prize at the Artur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in 2014. In this album, she performs her own compositions from the 20th century. This album couples the masterpieces of Debussy (France) and Gershwin (USA), two composers who lived at the same time in the first half of the 20th century and whose respective styles were highly influential. Debussy's colorful works and Gershwin's fusion of jazz and classical music, each with Osokins' delicate touch and polished musicality.The album closes with "Rhapsody in Blue," which Osokins himself arranged, condensing the thickness of the orchestral music into a solo piano version, and "My Boyfriend," which he plays with only his left hand.
