Max Reger (1873-1916) composed this violin concerto in 1907, when he was appointed as a professor at the Leipzig Conservatory, after he had escaped from a rough life. This difficult work, with its solid form, which is typical of German music, and a profound orchestral part that goes beyond Brahms, has not been performed very often. However, Schoenberg, who highly appreciated this work, asked his pupil Rudolf Korisch to arrange it for the repertoire of the "Private Performance Society," which he presided over. The chamber orchestra version of the accompaniment is the work recorded on this disc. The violin of Winfried Rademacher sings with the solid performance of the Linos Ensemble. (C)RS
