Kiya Tabashian approaches the poet Jalal Uddin Rumi with music! The second release on the Glossa label by Kiya Tabashian, a native of Iran who has studied ancient Persian music! The great Persian mystic poet, Jalal Uddin Rumi (1207-1273), left a series of over 100,000 lines of works. These mystical works inspired Kiya Tabasian, a native of Iran who had studied ancient Persian music, to begin a project to set these poems to music. The project took a more concrete form when Tabasian met with the outstanding Tunisian singer-songwriter, Ghalia Benali, and their collaboration began. The new musical world of "Constantinople," an ensemble that Tabassian founded in Montreal in 1998 (consisting of setar, qanoon, khemenseh, oud, gaychak, etc.), will be performed on Persian and Arabic poetry selected by Tabassian and Benali.
