The cellist Josétu Obregón, the symbol of the new era of Spanish old music, and the period ensemble La Ritilata, led by Obregón, are the pride of the ancient music powerhouse "Glossa". La Ritilata, which has released recordings of the wonderful Spanish Baroque and Italian Baroque music, presents its eighth release on Glossa, the music of Antonio Caldara (c.1671-1736), an Italian Baroque musician who will celebrate the 350th anniversary of his birth in 2020. Caldara, who served as deputy court musician to the Holy Roman Emperor Karl VI in Vienna, is best known today as a composer of operas and oratorios, but in recent years he has also been highlighted for his outstanding performances and recordings of instrumental works, and here we look at his relationship with the cello, which Caldara himself played.
