The Emerson String Quartet makes its PENTATONE debut! Since its formation in 1976, the Emerson String Quartet has consistently ranked among the world's top quartets. The quartet has recorded exclusively for the DG label for many years, winning six Grammy Awards, two Gramophone Awards, and many others. In 2011, the quartet moved to SONY, but has now chosen a new label, PENTATONE, and the first release is Schumann's three string quartets! Composed in the summer of 1842, the three string quartets are Schumann's most important chamber works. Inspired by Beethoven's works, Schumann expresses fantasy and lyricism typical of Schumann, especially in the slow movement, despite the traditional form. The Emerson String Quartet has been known for its sharp, well-honed playing since its founding, and this Schumann brings out its freshness and originality.The quartet has recorded the complete string quartets of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Bartók, Webern, and Shostakovich, and now they have a new masterpiece to add to their discography! The quartet is characterized by the fact that the first and second violins are not fixed, and in this recording, Eugene Drucker plays the first and second violins, and Philip Setzer plays the third violin. In addition, we have been an early adopter of the standing style of playing at concerts, which has been on the rise in recent years. The Emerson String Quartet is constantly evolving, and we look forward to their further success in the future! The recording producer is Dah-Hong Seetoh, who has been in charge of the quartet since its first recording, and the sound of the quartet will remain unchanged. King International Inc.
