Vladimir Jurowski is one of the world's most popular conductors. This is his sixth recording with the PENTATONE label (including two with the Rundfunk Symphonieorchester Berlin), and the most anticipated new recordings are R. Strauss's "Zarathustra" and Mahler's symphonic poem "Funeral" and symphonic preludes! Born in Moscow in 1972, Jurowski moved to Germany with his family in 1990 at the age of 18. After studying in Dresden and Berlin, Yurovsky gained international attention with his performance of Rimsky=Korsakov's "A Night in May" at the Wexford Festival in 1995.The following year, he began recording with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he has been Chief Conductor since 2007, as well as with the Russian National Orchestra, with whom he has recorded many works from his native Russia, and since the 2017/18 season he has been Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. In this disc, you can listen to the latest recording from 2017. This disc features R. Strauss and his signature Mahler. The disc features the tense and passionate "Zarathustra Speaks," the symphonic poem "The Funeral," also recorded with the Age of Enlightenment Orchestra (the first draft version of the first movement of Symphony No. 2 in C minor, "Resurrection"), and the symphonic prelude (some believe it is a fake). Expectations are high for Jurovsky's performance, who has an extraordinary feeling for Mahler's works.The recording was made in June 2016 at the main building of the Berlin Broadcasting House (Haus des Rundfunks, RBB, Berlin), but it is also noteworthy that only the organ part was recorded and mixed at St. Matthias Church in Berlin.
