Schubert (1797-1828)
Description:
The talented tenor Elsner recorded Schubert's Lieder, arranged by Reger and Webern with orchestra! The SACD Hybrid version is also supported by Janowski and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. The talented tenor Christian Elsner recorded Schubert's Lieder. The orchestral accompaniment is arranged by Reger and Webern and performed by the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marek Janowski. Janowski is a great admirer of Elsner and frequently collaborates with him, including on Wagner's "Parsifal" (PTC 5186401). Although many famous composers such as Brahms, Britten, Berlioz, Reger, and Webern have made orchestral arrangements of Schubert's songs, there have been very few performances or recordings of these arrangements, making this recording extremely valuable. This recording contains a total of 17 orchestral arrangements, 13 by Reger and 4 by Webern.Reger's version is a late Romanticism style of grandeur, almost organ-like. On the other hand, Webern's version was composed while he was a student at the University of Vienna, and he pursues a crystal-clear sound. The arrangements show the individuality of both composers, and you will discover new charms in Schubert's songs. Christian Elsner specializes in German lieder, and has made many recordings of Schubert and other German lieder. In recent years, he has made a splash with his performance of the chamber ensemble version of "Winterreise" arranged by Hans Zender with conductor Simon Rattle and members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra Academy. Enjoy Elsner's outstanding singing and Janowski's superb orchestration in the high-quality recording on the PENTATONE label. King International
