Laraaji was discovered by Brian Eno while performing in Washington Square Park and was featured on "Day of Radiance," the third in Eno's ambient series, which has since become a household name. Laraaji is a godlike presence whose trademark zither playing instantly brings you into a meditative space, and whose touch on the piano stops time, making him a one-of-a-kind figure who is being reevaluated or rather newly discovered in light of the new wave of new age/ambient music in recent years. Vision Songs" was originally released in 1984 in a limited edition of 100 cassettes and sold at yoga retreats and on the streets of NYC. The songs seemed to come one after another as he "communed" with a Casio synth in his room or in the spiritual bedroom of a yoga camp, and his talent as a catchy songwriter blossomed.The songs are miraculous, easily surpassing the realm of home-recorded pop and new wave of the period, and the words of the spiritual world in the austere and sexy voice, the fusion of lilting casio sounds and sparkling strings, and this poppy rhythm keep us in a state of numbness!
