The Uppsala University Choir, known as “AllmannaSangen” (Everyone’s Song), began as a men’s choir in 1830. It became a mixed choir in 1963. In 2016, the choir released an album titled *Modern Women* (BISSA2224). This album features works awarded the “Uppsala University Choir & Anders Wahl Composition Prize,” established to support female composers and contribute to the development of contemporary choral music. It generated significant buzz. Ten years later, the Uppsala University Choir has released a new album exploring the possibilities of collaboration between choir and string quartet. Britta Byström, Anna-Karin Klockar, Julia Wolfe, Karin Rehnqvist, Jessie Montgomery, Erika Hammarberg, Andrea Tarrodi, and Libby Larsen. *Bird Hunt*, commissioned specifically for this project. “Lim Lim Lima,” inspired by Alveen’s arrangement. The Hebrew morning prayer “You Breathe.” “Strum,” inspired by the “strumming” style of Appalachian fiddle music. These are works by women who continue to create some of the most exhilarating music in Sweden and the United States today. The “Malva Quartet” (Malva Kvartetten), which participated in the project, is a Gothenburg-based ensemble that produced the album *Footprint* (Footprint FR119). Conducted by Maria Goundorina, who has served as artistic director of the Uppsala University Choir since 2010. The album title *Extending the Range* is taken from *Alaska Spring*, a piece composed by Libby Larsen to a poem by Alaska’s Poet Laureate, Tom Sexton (1940–2025). Spring arrives, and the frozen Alaskan earth is exposed and begins to spread out... The title also carries a metaphorical meaning of expanding new soundscapes and various possibilities. It is a beautiful album.
