Mahler/Live", an ambitious production by the Vienna State Ballet that sets sail for a new beginning The Vienna State Opera will begin the 2020/21 season with a new lineup: President Bokdan Roszczych, Music Director Philippe Jordan, and Artistic Director of Ballet Martin Schlepfer. The season has started. The footage recorded in this issue was performed as a non-premiere by the Corona Disaster in December 2020. It includes two works: "4," a premiere work by the newly appointed artistic director of the Vienna State Ballet, the prodigious Martin Schlepper, and "Live," a work that will go down in dance history, choreographed by the Dutch choreographer Hans van Maanen. The first part is "Live," premiered in Amsterdam in 1979. The cast consisted of two dancers, a pianist, and a camera, and it was a very experimental performance, a work that is very much in tune with the current situation. The piece has been performed only by the Dutch National Ballet, but this is the first time it has been performed by another ballet company.The dancers are Olga Echina, the face of the Vienna State Ballet, and Marcos Menha from Brazil, who joined the company as first soloist in the 2020/21 season and was trusted by Schlepfer at Am Rhein. The pianist is Shino Takizawa, the Vienna State Ballet's resident pianist. The camera is by Henk van Dijk, who has been in charge of this piece for over 40 years since its premiere. The second part of the program is Martin Schlepfer's new work "4." The 2020/21 season is off to a tough start, but Schlepfer has prepared a fresh and innovative program that shows off his skills. This "4" is also an ambitious celebration of the ballet company's new departure with music from Mahler's Fourth Symphony. King International
