The highly acclaimed production of "The Knight of Roses" from the 2014 Salzburg Festival is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. 2014 marked the 150th anniversary of Richard Strauss's birth and featured an impressive cast for the Memorial Year. Franz Welser-Möst conducted. The orchestra's repertoire includes "Der Rosenkavalier," which they already have in their repertoire, and they showed great stability with their sticks. Welser-Möst announced his resignation as music director of the Vienna State Opera after this performance, so the record of this performance is very valuable. The production was directed by the maestro Harry Kupfer. He has made a name for himself in Japan with his numerous stage productions, and this year's production of "Parsifal" at the New National Theatre, Tokyo, is said to have been an outstanding production.In this production, the simple stage set is projected against the backdrop of the city of Vienna, the historical background is set in the early 20th century when the opera was first performed, and the performers' costumes and props are stylishly made compared to the previous lavish and opulent "Knight of Roses". The superb casting is also noteworthy. The overwhelming presence of Krassimira Stoyanova as the Marshaless. Stoyanova's lead in the famous triplet at the end of Act III is dependable, and she exudes the same mature charm as her intelligent and proud role. Sophie Koch is at her best as Octavian, and Mojca Ertman is also superbly suited as the dainty Zoffy. And the highlight is Günter Groisbeck singing Baron Ox. He is not the arrogant, lusty character that is the existing image of Baron Ox, but a smartly dressed and vocally rich actor. King International
