Young Verdi's ambitious production of "Macbeth" challenges Shakespeare's masterpiece Christophe Roy's production skillfully depicts light and darkness. The title role is played by Ludovic Tézier, one of the most famous baritones in modern opera. This disc features footage of Verdi's early masterpiece opera "Macbeth," directed by Christophe Roy and performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in 2016. Verdi was a great admirer of Shakespeare's plays, and "Macbeth" was his first opera based on Shakespeare's play, followed by "Otello" and "Falstaff. Macbeth" is the story of Macbeth, the ruler of Scotland from 1041 to 1057, whose lust for power leads him to conspire with his wife to assassinate the king and take his place as king, only to fall under the spell of a witch's prophecy. Christophe Roy masterfully depicts the light and darkness of Macbeth, who wavers between hope and fear at the witches' prophecy, with his skillful psychological portrayal. Ludovic Tézier plays the delusional Macbeth and Martina Seraphin the cunning and ambitious Lady Macbeth. Together, the ensemble vividly captures the psychological nuances of the characters. C MAJOR
