German contemporary composer Wilsher is known for his work in a wide range of genres, from classical symphonies to cabaret songs to jazz. His organ works, in particular, have a varied style, with a unique sound that incorporates minimalist elements and jazz flavors in a classical setting. Known as a writer, he is also an advocate for lost works and forgotten music. This "Organ Symphony No. 5," which depicts the life and teachings of St. Francis of Assisi, has a large scale structure but is essentially quiet in its sound. There are occasional dramatic passages, but they are quickly drowned out by the waves of sound and the peace is maintained. Cooman, who plays the organ, is a young composer with many works to his credit, but he is also the organist at Memorial Church in Harvard and a superb performer of contemporary organ music.
