Tony Allen, founder of Afrobeat, who sadly passed away in 2020. Tony Allen, who sadly passed away in 2020, was Fela Kuti's right-hand man for many years and one of Africa's greatest drummers, released his first album on the World Circuit label in 2009, "SECRET AGENT. Tony Allen worked with Fela Kuti from the mid-1960s, and began releasing his own solo/leader works in the 1970s. Hard riffing horns, roaring tenor guitar, funk-like saxophone and trumpet with keyboards, deep soulful vocal calls and responses, and Tony Allen's majestic drumming--all of these elements are present in SECRET AGENT. All the elements of Afrobeat are present in this album, "SECRET AGENT". It is a glimpse of Tony Allen's attempt to revive Afrobeat from its roots, while at the same time incorporating a modernist perspective and fusing Yoruba culture, Blue Note-style jazz arrangements, and even electronic elements.In the 2000s, Tony Allen was active as The Good, The Bad and The Queen with Blur's Damon Albarn and The Clash's Paul Simenon, Rocket Juice and The Moon with Damon Albarn and Free, as well as collaborating with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Jeff Mills, and has been a member of the band since its inception. Tony Allen, who has also actively collaborated with Jeff Mills and others, has revived one of the quintessential albums of Tony Allen's endless musicality and Afro-funk on a 2-CD analog set of the latest remastered material from 2022.
