The title work, TOMB!, written for the GBSR Duo and 12 Ensemble, is a highly acclaimed masterpiece that won both the 2023 Ivor Novello Award (Chamber Ensemble category) and the 2024 Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) Award (Chamber Ensemble category) in quick succession. It confronts classical music as a "cultural heritage of the past," weaving in quotations and imitations to depict death and rebirth. Further attention is drawn to Coin-Op Automaton, featuring the extraordinary harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani—a Bach specialist who simultaneously continues to explore the possibilities of the harpsichord within the contemporary music genre.This unique work features a harpsichord—a symbol of the Baroque era—leading a string quartet in a mechanical, convulsive dance reminiscent of coin-operated automata. Additionally, Osborne's sonic world—where irony, humor, and earnest observation intersect—is vividly portrayed by top players from the British contemporary music scene.
