Description:
Shostakovich: Complete Piano Works, Vol. 3 The monumental work *24 Preludes and Fugues* was composed as a response to J.S. Bach’s *Well-Tempered Clavier*. While it serves as a tribute to Bach, it also reveals Shostakovich’s distinctive artistic voice. Since Nikolayeva’s recording, few have dared to tackle this work due to its high level of difficulty; however, Catone delivers a superb, polished performance that goes beyond a mere challenge. Having devoted a great deal of time to this recording, the result is of exceptionally high quality. His dynamic sound and exceptional technical skill are perfectly suited to the works of Shostakovich, who was himself a master pianist. Eugenio Catone was born in Naples, Italy, in 1986. He has won numerous prestigious piano competitions and is active both in Italy and internationally. In addition to his solo career, he pursues a multifaceted musical career encompassing chamber music, composition, and conducting. Catone’s complete collection of Shostakovich’s piano works is his most significant project; it has been highly acclaimed for its comprehensive coverage, ranging from fresh early miniatures to large-scale works.
