Clementi's 4 hands and 2 pianos works! World premiere recording on historical instruments! Muzio Clementi, the father of modern piano technique, was an Italian composer, pianist, conductor, educator, and instrument builder. Clementi is known for his approximately 100 piano sonatas, exercises, and four symphonies, but his works for four hands and two pianos are not so well known today. However, from his early years as a composer until about 1786, he had a strong interest in this genre, publishing them as Op. 1, 3, 6, 12, and 14. This album also includes a number of playful works, from a technical sonata to a small piece written for his daughter and a mazurka that imitates Turkish percussion sounds. Clementi's keyboard duo works are performed on different historical pianos according to the period and character of the works: a Broadwood (1796) square piano, Weiss and Jakesh fortepianos with Vienna-style action, and a square piano made by Clementi, 18th century. The evolution of the piano and changes in compositional style from the late 18th century to the early 19th century are vividly brought to light. Carlo Mazzoli and Silvia Rambaldi, both involved in the study of historical instruments and ancient music techniques, have been professors of piano and harpsichord, respectively, at the G.B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna for many years and have realized many teaching and performance projects.The Italian keyboardist Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini's work at the Museo San Colombano, which houses his collection of instruments, led to a study of Clementi's duet works, which led to this recording.
