Description:
A collection of Vivaldi's cello sonatas, including three unpublished works! Vivaldi, who gave nobility to the soul of the cello instrument and created many wonderful works for the cello, composed six cello sonatas around 1720-30 and published in Paris around 1740, just before his death, plus three works whose transcriptions have been confirmed but not yet published. This is a de facto "complete set of cello sonatas" that includes the six cello sonatas published in Paris around 1740, plus three for which transcriptions have been confirmed but not published. The soloist, Antonio Mostacci, is the principal cellist of the Tyrol Festival Orchestra in Austria and a Bologna-born virtuoso. He studied with János Starker, Franco Rossi, and Ivan Siforó, and has won four major Italian competitions, including the Vittorio Veneto Competition. As a Bologna Baroque, he has already proven his ability with Antonio Vandini's cello sonatas (TC692202). In this recording, the solo part is played on a rare instrument made around 1750 by the Montagnana school, and the bass part is played on a rare instrument made in 1692 by Simone Cimapane, a string instrument maker who was also a violone player in Arcangelo Corelli's orchestra.
