Mazzoni (1717-1785) was a composer born in Bologna. He studied music with Luca Antonio Predieri, joined the Philharmonic Academy in Bologna, composed his first opera "Siroe, re di Persia" in 1746, which was a success, and then began his great success as choral conductor of the Basilica of St. Giovanni in Monte Carlo and After the success of this work, he began his career as choir director of the Basilica of St. Giovanni in Monte Carlo and choir director of the Basilica of St. Petronio. In 1753, he went to Lisbon, where he completed "Antigone" in 1755. The following year, he returned to Italy, but the existence of Antigone was forgotten. This album is an attempt to revive the opera that was almost forgotten forever.The score, which was thought to have been reduced to ashes 255 years ago, was discovered in a library in Rio de Janeiro, carefully restored (the project was documented by the BBC), and now, in the 21st century, has been beautifully revived by Divino Sospiro, led by Enrico Onofri, and a group of spirited singers.
