Offenbach (1819-1880)
Description:
An album typical of the "Opera Lara" label containing rare Offenbach operas is now available as a set 《Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) was a composer born in Cologne in the Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, who was active in France. Undoubtedly the most important composer of French operettas, he wrote nearly 100 operettas and had a decisive influence on the musicals of today. Offenbach learned to play the cello as a child under the tutelage of his father and entered the Paris Conservatory. After graduating, he became a cellist in an orchestra, and was so virtuoso that he was known in the salons of high society as "the cellist of the cello," and composed many cello works that are rarely performed today. In 1850, he became the conductor of the Théâtre français, and in 1855, he became the conductor of his own theater, the Théâtre de la Villefranche. Later, in 1855, he founded his own theater, the Boeuf-Parisien, where he presented operettas, which became very popular. His operetta "Orphée de l'inferno" premiered on October 21, 1958, and was a smash hit, running for 228 consecutive performances through June of the following year. Rossini called it "Mozart on the Champs-Elysées," and even today it is called "the father of operetta. His late masterpiece "The Tales of Hoffmann," which he died without having completed, is a masterpiece of opera with a fantastic story, substantial music, and a wonderful combination of entertainment and artistry. Opera Rara was established as a foundation to rediscover, restore, document, and perform the lost operatic legacy of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and in 2020 it will celebrate exactly 50 years. In 2020, the foundation will celebrate exactly 50 years since its founding. The foundation has re-created many operas that had never been performed before, including Donizetti and Rossini in particular. The two Offenbach operettas included in this set, "Robinson Crusoe" and "Vel-Vel," as well as a collection of operatic arias from operettas whose titles have rarely even been heard, are now available in a limited re-release set.
