Description:

The long-awaited remastered reissue of a masterpiece by legendary saxophonist Cedric "Im" Brooks! A seminal Jamaican album that transcends the boundaries of reggae by incorporating African music, funk, Nyabinghi, and jazz—paving the way for the later "Light of Saba"!! Featuring Tony Allen, Ernest Ranglin, Beres Hammond, Dean Fraser, and others Released by the renowned label *PressureSounds*, known for archival reissues of rare and high-quality reggae and dub recordings, Cedric "Im" Brooks’ 7-track album *United Africa* has achieved cult status not only among reggae fans but also among world music and jazz enthusiasts. This album truly lives up to that reputation, offering a sublime fusion of 1970s reggae, African music, funk, and jazz. Brooks is a graduate of the prestigious Alpha Boys School in Kingston, Jamaica, and his early recordings were made with The Vagabonds and The Granville Williams Band. His first solo recording was produced at Studio One with trumpeter David Madden and released as *I and David*. In 1970, he met Count Ossie and joined The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari. He played saxophone and flute and also arranged the horn section. He broadened his musical influences while traveling between the United States and Africa, and also performed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This diverse musical background is strongly reflected in this album; with its rich musicality and varied content, it can be considered a seminal work that led to the later *Light of Saba*. The album features some of Jamaica’s top musicians, including drummer Tony Allen. Although it consists of only seven tracks, it includes extended mixes and has been remastered. Cedric passed away in New York in 2013, but his musical legacy lives on.
