The complete set of Ferstel's valuable symphonies is now available! This is a rare collection of complete symphonies by Josef Bohuslav Ferstel, a Czech composer who belonged to the same generation as Mahler and was a Mahler supporter. Ferstel was a versatile musician who studied at the Prague Conservatory and lived a life of composition, criticism, teaching, and painting. After a long life in Hamburg and Vienna, he returned to Prague at the end of World War I, when his country became an independent Czechoslovak Republic, and spent the rest of his life in the Czech Republic. He was a professor at the Prague Conservatory of Music, where he became director in 1939, and was knighted as a People's Artist in 1946. In 1888, he wrote No. 1, a beautiful, tense, mournful work in memory of his mother's death; No. 2, written in 1890, is said to have been highly praised by his friend Mahler, whose funeral march and scherzo are beautifully contrasted. The funeral march and the scherzo are in splendid contrast. No. 3, written in the early years of his Hamburg period. The Suite "In den Bergen" is one of his earliest works.Many of the works, such as the uniquely beautiful Fifth Symphony, reflect memories of Ferstel's family, and there are also some notable references to "The Knight of the Roses," "Tosca," "Tristan and Isolde," and "Rusalka," and in addition, despite being a modern Czech composer In addition, despite being a modern Czech composer, there is little of the folkloric in his style, and the profound atmosphere, which could be described as late Romantic or mystical, is sufficiently appealing.
