Romantic expression and supple beautyGerman composer Rudolf studied with Moscheles and Preddy at the Leipzig Conservatory and privately with Reinecke and Hauptmann, worked as a pianist and teacher at the Cologne Conservatory, and founded the Cologne Bach Society in 1867. He then worked as a piano instructor at the Berlin University of the Arts (then the Berlin Higher School of Music), where he also served as conductor of the Stern Choral Society. He was close to the Schumann family and even taught piano to the couple's daughter. Perhaps because of this, there is a clear Schumann or Brahms influence in Rudolf's "Six Pieces" and other pieces, but there is a unique expression and natural beauty in the salon-like sweetness and romantic violin melodies. The performance of the Bellorina Ensemble gives these works a seductive charm and grand possibilities. Universal Music/IMS
