Copland, who was also an unknown master conductor, shakes the Berlin Philharmonic! Leister plays the solo in the famous concerto dedicated to Benny Goodman! This is a recording of a concert conducted by Carl Leister (1937-) while he was the principal clarinet of the Berlin Philharmonic (1959-1993). Copland's Clarinet Concerto was written at the request of Benny Goodman, and the Berlin Philharmonic handled the highly technical cadenza, the dialogue between orchestra and clarinet, and the jazz elements unique to Copland with aplomb. This is a valuable recording in the sense that Copland himself conducted. King International
