Jean Chakmul, winner of the 10th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, presents the second remarkable release from the BIS label, Liszt x Schubert! Chakmul's re-arranged "Swan Song" and "Four Forgotten Waltzes"!SACD hybrid disc.In addition to winning the first prize at the 10th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 2018, Jean Chakmul has won numerous awards, including the Chamber Music Prize and the Mayor of Sapporo Prize at the same competition. As a supplementary prize for the winner, he was chosen to make his recording debut on the BIS label, and his debut disc (KKC 4169) was released in January 2019 with a session recording at Act City Hamamatsu, the venue of the competition, which garnered a great deal of attention. He has also successfully performed more than 20 concerts throughout Japan as part of the winner's tour of the competition starting in April 2019, and is currently attracting attention as one of the most promising young talented pianists in Japan. One year after his highly acclaimed debut recording, he took on Liszt for his second recording for the BIS label at Wyaston Concert Hall in England in January 2020! The recording features Schubert's "Swan Song" S 560 and "Four Forgotten Waltzes" S 215, both arranged by Liszt for solo piano.One of Schubert's three major song cycles, "Swan Song" was compiled after his death by his publishers and friends, unlike "The Beautiful Watermill Girl" and "Winter Journey," which were compiled by Schubert himself, and does not have continuity as a song cycle. For this reason, Chakmul has changed the order of performance according to his own sensibilities. This is a remarkable performance that presents a new story. On the other hand, "Four Forgotten Waltzes" S 215, composed between 1881 and 1884, is impressive for the gentle tone of Liszt's later years. Chakmul's performance is full of sharp sensitivity and songfulness. This is a remarkable disc that we can't help but expect even greater things from him in the future! ＜Born in Ankara, Turkey in 1997. After graduating from high school in Ankara in 2012, he studied at the Schola Cantorum in Paris under Marcella Kurdeli, graduating at the top of his class in 2014. She is currently studying under Grigory Gluzman in Weimar, while continuing her studies with Diane Andersen in Belgium.The Pekinel Sisters, a piano duo sponsored by TUPRAS, have been selected for the G&S Pekinel Young Musicians on the World Stages, a music education project aimed at encouraging young musicians to perform on the international stage, and have been provided with a grand piano for their studies.
