The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, led by Ptoninš, presents the second collection of choral works by Schnittke & Pärt: Schnittke: Penitential Psalms, Pärt: Magnificat & Lord, Now You Are (BIS SA-2292), released on the BIS label, 2018 UK Gramophone Award for Vocal Music, and this album is highly anticipated. Schnittke's "Concerto for Unaccompanied Chorus" is a four-part work with texts by Gregor, an Armenian poet of the 10th and 11th centuries. On the other hand, "Three Chants" was composed in 1984 at the request of Valery Poljansky, then conductor of the National Symphony Capella Chorus, and also uses Gregor's poem as the text. The text is also based on Gregor's poems. Although it was composed in the Soviet era, it is very innovative in that it follows the style of Russian chants.The Seven Magnificat Antiphonas was composed by Pelto to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the RIAS Chamber Choir. It was first performed in West Berlin at the time, and a revised version was released in 1991. This recording features the revised version.
