Description:

Also performed by A. Kantorov, the winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition! SACD Hybrid Edition of the fascinating collection of self-performances by the genius José Célébrière! This is a collection of recordings by conductor and composer Jose Cerebrière from Montevideo, Uruguay, including his own compositions! Cerebrière began to distinguish himself as a teenager, and at the age of 11 he organized the first youth orchestra in his country, Uruguay, and made his debut as the conductor of the orchestra. In just four years after its formation, the orchestra gave more than 100 performances. He also developed his talent as a composer, winning a composition competition in his home country at the age of 15. He studied composition with Copland and conducting with Antal Dorati and Pierre Montoux at the Tanglewood Music Center, and his talent was recognized by some of the most important musicians of the 20th century. He began his career as a world-class musician when his First Symphony, composed at the age of 17, attracted the attention of Stokowski and was premiered by the Houston Symphony Orchestra in 1957. He is still active as a conductor and composer. All of the works included here are new works from the turn of the century and include world premiere recordings. The solo piano in the "Symphonic 'BACH' Variations" is played by Alexander Kantorov, the winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition. The piece is a fascinating dialogue between the orchestra and the solo piano, as if they are struggling against each other. Bezary gives an expressive performance in the "Flute Concerto, with Tango," which has a rich melody. The last piece on the program is Tchaikovsky's song "Only He Who Knows Longing," which Cerebrière arranged as an orchestral version. The performance is impressive for the supremely beautiful performance that results from the talents of both the composer and the conductor. King International
