Description:

The world premiere recording of the second part of Jørn REIFUS's fantastic oratorio "Edda"! Based on the ancient Norse songbook "Edda," the oratorio "Edda" by Joan Reifs (1899-1968) was conceived as a four-part work, and composition began in 1935, when he was focusing on large-scale works. In 1951, he began the second part, "The Creation," and then stopped work on the second part, completing the last four movements in 1966. The third part, "Twilight of the Gods," was not completed until the death of the composer, and only the text of the fourth part, "Resurrection," remained. The first part, "The Creation" (BISSA1350), was premiered in 2006, and its bold orchestration with bronze horns and huge percussion instruments of the same type as those used in the Nordic Bronze Age, and its music that captures the identity of Iceland, have made it an outstanding work in the history of Icelandic music. The bold orchestration with bronze horns and huge percussion groups of the same type as in the Nordic Bronze Age, which dared to ignore historical facts, and the music that carved Iceland's identity have made this work a precious heritage of Icelandic music history. The second part, "Life of the Gods," is a six-movement work consisting of , , and (Warrior) Three solo voices, Due in part to the fact that it is made into a large-scale music requiring three solo singers, mixed chorus, and orchestra, it was not performed during the composer's lifetime, and its premiere was made possible in 2018 with funding from the Icelandic Copyright Society (STEF) and the Icelandic Centenary of Independence Committee.
