The complete works for keyboard by Josef Myslivecek, who was born in Horný Šárka near Prague and died in Rome, are now available on SACD Hybrid. Studied under Giovanni Peschetti in Venice, Mislivecek gained fame as a composer of Italian operas with his nimble vocal writing and rich melodic inventiveness, and also composed many classical symphonies and chamber works. The collection of works for keyboard recorded here represents a unique compositional style that blends Czech musicality with Italian influences, and his sense of formal balance and varied harmonies were a precursor to the masters of the Viennese Classical School. The complete collection is now complete with the world premiere recording of Concerto No. 2. The virtuoso Claire Hammond plays it nimbly. King International
