The disc entitled "Noble and Melancholy Instruments" is a collection of works for horn and piano by composers who lived in the 19th century (only Gilbert Vinter was born in the 20th century). Starting with Beethoven, Schumann, Franz Strauss (father of Richard Strauss, who left many works mainly for horn), Rossini, Saint-Saens, Glazunov, and Dukas, the composers active in the 19th century were very diverse. The program is a rich and varied selection of music that will allow you to appreciate the individuality of each composer through the horn instrument. Alec Frank-Gemmill is the principal horn player of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as of 2017. The horn is a highly technical instrument, and Frank-Gemmill sings eloquently and captivates the listener with his almost flawless technique. King International
